PreSonus Blog

This just in from the globetrotting portion of our crew that spent some quality time at Musikmesse in Frankfurt, Germany, last week. We saw a lot of old friends, shook the hands of new friends, and shot some admittedly shakey-cam videos. But hey, that’s “from the trenches,” right? it’s just like being there!

Featured in this trifecta of Cinéma vérité are the Monitor Station V2, the Music Creation Suite, the Sceptre monitors, and—perhaps most important—our incredible #GetYourHooksIn contest. Click around the video below to get all the details.

We apologize in advance for the poor audio quality.

Get Your Hooks In, and you could WIN incredible recording packages—including royalties!

We’re having a global contest that’s completely unlike any contest we’ve done before! In fact, we believe that this is different than any other contest done before in our cozy little industry. The grand prize is absolutely outstanding: You have a chance to win not only incredible gear but also 50% of the song’s final writing royalties!

What’s the gist?

A-list producer/songwriter 5aint (Amy Winehouse, Noel Gallagher, Sasha, and Pet Shop Boys, and many others) had the great idea to partner with us for a melody-writing/singing contest open to songwriters anywhere on Planet Earth. (Including residents of other planets and moons proved too complicated. Sorry, Martians and Venusians!)

Here’s the short version of how it works:

What can I win?

Lots! The winning singer/songwriter will be a featured artist on the recording and will receive 50 percent of the writing credit and final writing royalties.

In addition PreSonus will offer the following prizes:

Songwriting teams are welcome and encouraged to enter. If a team wins, the winning team can divide the prize any way they choose.

)

When does the contest run?

The contest launches on March 12, 2014, and runs until May 12, 2014. Submissions received after 11:59 p.m. U.S. Central Time on May 12, 2014, will not be accepted.

How are the winners chosen?

The winning tracks will be selected by a to be announced celebrity judging panel that will include 5aint, Steve Dodds, Presonus executives and some surprising a-list producers, engineers, and musicians.

The winning track will be chosen on the basis of “greatest potential for widespread commercial appeal”—so write a hit!

What about the fine print?

Full #GetYourHooksIn contest rules and regulations can be found here but the gist of it is this:

  • You and/or your team can only enter one (1) song
  • You CANNOT sell your song on iTunes, Nimbit, or any other marketplace
  • We will need a bit of time to listen to every submission, so we plan to announce a winner roughly 30 days after the submission deadline

Are you guys serious? Does the winner really get 50% of the songwriting royalties?

Oh yes. Have fun, rock star!

Here’s a look at some of the “Why StudioLive” submissions that left us scratching our heads a bit. Laudable efforts all around made memorable with just a dash of mystery.

The David Lynch Palme d’Or Awards:

Scott P.’s “Digital Reflections” Explores an everyman’s StudioLive experience as viewed through the populist lens of stillwater kayaking.

Eric P’s “Agent Tiny e” Originally titled “The Blair Mixer Project,” this submission left our viewers both shaken and stirred.

Entrant unknown’s “Aw shucks,” makes us happy and confused in equal measure; it’s entries like this that make us feel OK about the fact that sometimes people don’t read the rules.

It stands to reasons that musicians would make music videos, right? Some of these turned out to be incredibly funny.

Best Comedies and Musicals:

Dave E’s “Give it to Me” was one of the earliest submissions, and we were amazed the he cranked out such an incredible production in such short time, and deserves special recognition for that alone. I wound up with this song stuck in my head while trying to fall asleep many times in the past several weeks.

Leslie C.’s smooth, contemplative exploration of the subject at hand left some of us bewildered, but most of us chuckling in “Ain’t no Dummy”

StudioLive Preacher’s “Why StudioLive” video was an early favorite of mine, but Carl thought it was “Too weird.” I think the real issue here is that Carl isn’t weird enough.

Dan C.’s “Why Anyone Should have a StudioLive” asks—and answers—many of the most pressing questions of our day.

Jeff N.’s “Digital World” brings us something we’ve needed for a long time: a PreSonus theme song!

Matt F’s “Presonus Rhyme” is the feel-good hit of the fall. Watch out, Jay-Z.

Andrew R’s video boldy mixes the dispariging influences of 2NU and Rod Serling to great affect in “My Town PreSonus.”

Stay tuned for a future post in our next category: The David Lynch Palme d’Or Awards!

I’ve said it before and I will say it again: you guys did some incredible work. We had so many astonishing submissions to the Why StudioLive video contest that we had to up the ante on our prizes significantly. We had planned to give away two prizes, and expanded this to four big prizes, a dozen copies of Studio One Professional, and a sizeable order of T-shirts that caused a cotton shortage in Kentucky.

Included below are some of our favorites that may not have made the final cut, but certainly cut out a little place in our hearts.

David B’s “Why PreSonus StudioLive at LocalMotive Studios” was a close, close contender.

“Why Not Presonus StudioLive?” from T-Bone pitches the StudioLive as exactly what it is: an all-in-one solution. “It’s so advanced, but also so simple.” This guy really gets it!

Chris’ “Get Connected with PreSonus” offers great cinematography, music, and detailed feature walk-through, while also extrapolating upon the mixer’s namesake: applications in both Studio and Live use.

Stay tuned for a future post in our next category: Best Comedies and Musicals!

The “Why StudioLive” video contest was a smashing success. And that’s all because of you.

We received many qualified submissions—over eighty in total—and the process of viewing, judging, and choosing winners took a long time. You guys all did such a good job that the original idea of rewarding only two of the videos was not only impossible, but seemed a little unfair considering the quality of the material we received.
So, we are instead giving away four big prizes, adding a StudioLive 16.4.2AI or ADL 700, and Eris E8 monitors to the existing offering of a StudioLive 32.4.2AI and Sceptre S8 monitors.
These winners have already been e-mailed information regarding their winning status and instructions for claiming their prize. If you are listed below and didn’t get that e-mail, check your spam folder!
The winners are:

GRAND PRIZE WINNER receives a StudioLive 32.4.2.AI:
Jerry W: “Why We Need This Mixer”

Second place winner receives his choice of a StudioLive 16.4.2AI  or  ADL 700:
Aaron S.: “Give me StudioLive or Give Me Death”

Third place winner receives a pair of Sceptre S8s:
Marco L.:  ”Rule Your Gig”

Fourth place winner receives a pair of  Eris E8s:
Chris B.’s “Why StudioLive”

Congratulations to the above—but that’s not all!

We also have an additional twelve entrants, who will also be e-mailed soon, who will receive their choice from the following software:

Furthermore, everyone who entered gets a PreSonus T-shirt.

Your hard work and support of PreSonus means a great deal to us. Check in with us again here at the blog and on Facebook for more coverage of the video contest in the coming week—as well as more info on future contests—and thanks again for making this one such a huge success.

TEN GRAND. A nice, round number with lots of nice, round zeroes in it. AskAudioMag.com is celebrating the launch of their online edition with an incredible prize package of software and hardware. The sheer number of companies involved makes them too big to fit in a blog post that will command the attention of the Twitter generation, but rest assured it reads more or less like the entire roster of NAMM exhibitors. We’ve contributed a few copies of Studio One Professional 2.

All you have to do to enter is click on over here and add a comment discussing what prize you’re most excited about and why. That’s it! Really! You’ll also find the full list of prize packages at the bottom of the same page.

Bonus: There’s also a daily prize for entrants: One Year Online Library Pass to macProVideo.com ($199) and the AudioBase.com Mega Loops Bundle ($90).

So do it;  but do it before Friday, September 27 at 5 p.m. PST / 8 p.m EST, after which point carriages turn into pumpkins, mogwais turn into gremlins, and all hope is lost for your chance to score this—the best hoard ever.
