I’ve heard a comparison to taikng photos and using photoshop with music and mastering.As a photographer, I use photoshop on my personal photos that are for personal pleasure, all those that we go to press are dealt with by external (professional) retouchers for correction etc. Much the same way I would master my own music for myself, and send out those tracks which will be released into the big wide world.
