Dennis Leeflang began his career in The Netherlands, where he played with several major rock acts, including Within Temptation, Epica, and Sun Caged. He became the European touring drummer for guitarist/singer/producer, Bumblefoot (a.k.a. Ron Thal, Guns N' Roses lead guitarist) in 2002. In 2004 Dennis moved to New York City and became Bumblefoot's full-time drummer. Since then, he has recorded and toured all over the world with Bumblefoot, as well as with metal queen Lita Ford and with his intercontinental rock project The Saturnine.
Dennis also runs his own studio, where he records drum tracks for artists and bands all over the globe. He also works as a freelance engineer and producer. Dennis' main recording setup consists of a FireStudio with an additional DigiMax FS for a total for 16 inputs
"I always recorded drum tracks for people when I was still living in Europe but never had my own solid multitrack setup,” says Leeflang. “When I got to New York in 2004, I slowly started building a studio. At first I got two FirePods, just to get my feet wet. These things worked out great. I've recorded drum tracks for many records with them, and my tracks have been used and mixed by several of the industry's top producers. People love the sounds I'm getting, and the quality is totally up there with the major NYC recording studios.”
In 2008, Leeflang upgraded to a FireStudio with a DigiMax FS. “It's working out amazingly,“ enthuses Leeflang. “The FireStudio with the DigiMax enable me to record at 96 kHz, which is becoming more and more in demand. I was always happy with the sound of the FirePods, but the FireStudio is a big step up, with amazing headroom and clarity. Cymbals sound crystal clear, and my kick drum low end is fat but defined. Loving it! And I love having a compact and mobile setup. I'm able to pack it up along with my drums and record in different rooms with different acoustics, when needed--just a 19” rack case and a laptop.”
Leeflang also relies on a pair of FaderPorts, one is in his recording room and one in his editing/mixing room. “I can't imagine working without them,” he states.
The editing/mixing room also features a Central Station, which feeds Leeflang's monitor speakers and a subwoofer. “Everything sounds clean and clear,” he says, ”and the CSR-1 remote is very handy. I also use an HP4 [headphone system] in this room, which is ideal when I'm recording live vocals and guitars with artists. All this PreSonus gear is so easy to work with and sounds killer."
